Sainfoin Supreme by Heavenly Hay

Sainfoin is a premium, non-GMO forage grown in the pristine fields of Twin Bridges, Montana. Unlike ordinary hay or alfalfa, sainfoin is naturally bloat-free, highly palatable, and rich in essential nutrients that support the overall health and performance of your animals. This isn't just any forage – it’s a gift from heaven for your horses.

Unleash the Power of Nature for Your Horse's Health.  By harnessing the unique nutritional properties of sainfoin hay, combined with Oats and Chia seeds, Sainfoin Supreme offers horse owners a superior feeding option that promotes better health and performance for their prized equine athletes.

Why Choose Sainfoin Supreme?

  • Non-GMO & Naturally Grown – Free from binding agents, pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers, providing just clean, wholesome nutrition.

  • Non-Bloating – Unlike alfalfa, sainfoin is non-gas producing helping reduce incidence of colic.

  • Superior in Protein – Sainfoin contains a high level of protein (min 16%) that is 76% bioavailable, compared to the 40% found in most horse feeds.

  • Lower in sugar and starch – Ideal for horses that require low sugar and starch diets, are insulin-resistant, have allergies or metabolic conditions.

  • Excellent Source for Energy – Oats are a trusted source of digestible fiber and slow-releasing carbohydrates.  It provides sustained energy while supporting a healthy digestive system and maintaining your horse’s weight and condition. An excellent source of energy and provides essential vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin B1.  Oats are the highest in fiber, and lowest in sugar and starch of all the cereal grains fed to horses.

  • Essential Fatty Acids - The essential fatty acid composition of chia seeds mimics those found in fresh pasture: 4 to 1 ratio of omega 3 (alpha linolenic acid) to omega 6 (linoleic acid).  Reduces inflammation in joints and strengthen hooves, skin, and hair.

  • Rich in Amino Acids – Essential for animals to help support healthy immune function as well as to help with the growth, repair and maintenance of tissues in horses.  Amino Acids play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing a horse’s body condition and topline.
  • Naturally High in Condensed Tannins– Tannins have anti-inflammatory properties, which may help reduce inflammation in the body, potentially benefiting conditions like arthritis or other inflammatory disorders.  Tannins have been shown to scavenge free radicals and help reduce oxidative stress.  Tannins have been found to possess antimicrobial properties, which can inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

  • Highly Palatable – Animals love the taste, which encourages consistent feed intake.
  • Longer chewing time - We have recorded the chewing time of horses who eat alfalfa pellets vs those who eat the sainfoin pellets. The horses observed spent an average of 30% more time chewing the sainfoin, salivated significantly more and drank up to twice the amount of water when they were eating sainfoin. Chewing for production of saliva and digestive enzymes and increased water consumption are all important for optimal gastrointestinal health in horses.

Feeding Directions

Always measure feed by weight, not volume.

To improve ease of consumption, add water before feeding.

Sainfoin Supreme can replace a portion of the hay ration. Total forage intake for equine athletes should equal 2 to 3% of body weight, using clean, well-balanced hay.

Since sainfoin and alfalfa have similar mineral profiles, use alfalfa cautiously when adding it to the diet. Grass hay is the preferred choice when including additional forage.

Sainfoin is naturally rich in beta-carotene, which is safely converted to vitamin A as needed by the horse's body. When feeding sainfoin along with a vitamin/mineral supplement, avoid excessive total vitamin A intake by keeping supplemental vitamin A at or below approximately 30,000 IU per day.

Always ensure access to fresh, clean water. Store in a dry place, off the ground, and away from pests to preserve freshness.
